Our History

Osborn was originally founded in 1919, as a subsidiary of British Steel company, Samuel Osborn. It was established to market special steels for industry and mining in South Africa. Today the company is a major manufacturer of equipment for Africa's mining and quarrying industries.

It was in April of 1951 that the first license agreement covering a number of products including Gyraspheres™, Vibro-King screens, feeders, screw classifiers and parts was signed with Smith Engineering works - as it was known then.

Osborn became a member of the U.S. industrial group, Astec Industries, Inc. on September 30, 2000. The association with Astec, together with our existing license agreements means Osborn offers a far broader range of world-class equipment.

Osborn has long-established licence agreements with major international principals - such as Telsmith, Mogensen (UK), and IFE (Austria); and, in association with them and its network of agents and distributors, supplies local and export mining, quarrying and industrial markets across Africa.
