New Managing Director for Osborn

Johan Goosen has been appointed managing director of Osborn Engineered Products SA.

Goosen joins Osborn from Atlas Copco, where he managed Drilling Solutions and, in his most recent role of regional business line manager, was responsible for Mining and Rock Excavation Services. During his time with the firm, Goosen exceeded financial targets despite the challenging market, and he made significant contributions to increasing the business’s market share and improving customer relations.

“Johan has a very good understanding of our industry and its challenges,” comments Richard Patek, group president of Astec Aggregate & Mining, of which Osborn is a subsidiary.

Quality spares, repairs and service in demand

While the current challenging economic climate and decline in commodities prices are prompting mines and quarries to cut capital expenditure, there is an increased focus on securing quality spare parts, repairs and service, according to Brian Frost, national parts manager at Osborn.

He reveals that by tailoring its structure and strategy to meet the changing needs of customers, equipment supplier Osborn is not only weathering the current tough times, but growing some areas of its business.

Catoca Diamond Mine opts for Osborn Machines for upgrade

Mining equipment specialist Osborn has secured a R12 million export order to Angola, for robust machines that will enable the world’s fourth largest diamond mine to process the more competent material that it is now mining.

Osborn will supply the Catoca diamond mine with a large vibrating grizzly feeder and a jaw crusher, reveals marketing director Martin Botha. The mine, which is located near Saurimo in the Lunda Sul province of Angola, is upgrading its primary tip in order to accommodate the harder material being mined, he adds.
