Osborn offers a one-stop shop for coal handling

With coal use worldwide continuing to grow – led by China and India - the future looks bright for equipment suppliers who can contribute to meeting the burgeoning demand for coal-fired energy.

Elandsfontein-based Osborn is one such supplier, and with the addition of a new mineral sizer to its product range, offers a virtual one-stop shop for the coal industry.

Osborn showcases new line-up of world-class equipment

Exceptional machines from United States-based Astec Loudon, Toro Trencor, Roadtec, BTI and American Augers are now being supplied and supported in the South African market by Osborn Engineered Products. Osborn, which is also part of the Astec stable and has become the African agent for its American sister companies, hosted an Open Day at its Elandsfontein premises at the end of 2011, to showcase some of the additions to its equipment offering.

Showcased the Open Day was the Roadtec Shuttle Buggy, a material transfer vehicle (MTV) that can store and transfer hot-mixed asphalt material from a truck to a paver for continuous paving.

Osborn screens at leading diamond mining group Petra

Osborn product manager Emile Oosthuyzen explains that the screens will be employed at Petra Diamonds' Cullinan operation, where a new tailings reclamation plant is being set up. This order comprises six Osborn IFE Screens – two 12” x 24” double deck screens and four 12” x 24” single decks – as well as one 3” x 16” Osborn Obex single deck screen.

Osborn netted this order based on its competitive pricing, as well as its long-established reputation as a supplier of robust, high quality products, Oosthuyzen says. Petra Diamonds currently has a wide range of Osborn machines in operation at Cullinan, he adds, including vibrating grizzly feeders, screens, scrubbers and crushers.
